More than 160 amateur singers from across the County and beyond joined Worcester Festival Choral Society to learn an oratorio in a day at The King’s School Worcester's College Hall, on Saturday 16th April.

In the ‘Singalongelijah’ workshop, singers learned the major choruses from Felix Mendelssohn's great choral work Elijah – and then gave an informal afternoon performance to family and friends.

The ‘Come and Sing’ day was led by Worcester Cathedral Director of Music and Worcester Festival Choral Society Conductor Dr Peter Nardone, and accompanied by Worcester Cathedral Assistant Director of Music Christopher Allsop.

Event organiser David Norledge, Treasurer of Worcester Festival Choral Society, said: “It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic singers come along. Everyone enjoyed themselves and, considering that many people had never sung the work before, we made a fantastic sound!”

The workshop was such a success that the Choral Society plans to make it an annual event. Details about the next ‘Come and Sing’, planned for Spring 2017, will be announced on its website later this year.

Meanwhile, amateur tenors, basses, altos and sopranos interested in joining Worcester Festival Choral Society for their 2016-17 concert season, which begins in September, are invited to visit www.worcesterfestivalchoralsociety.org.uk for details.
