Auction couple’s Cathedral concert joy
25th November, 2016
A Worcester couple who won tickets to a major concert in a charity auction held by Worcester Live in April, has described the concert as “an evening to remember”.
Classical music lovers Jim and Margaret Panter, who live in St Johns, successfully bid for a pair of top tickets to Worcester Festival Choral Society’s performance of Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, held in Worcester Cathedral on Saturday 19th November. Their package included pre-show drinks and tapas at Sidbury cocktail bar and restaurant, Primo, and interval refreshments with the Choral Society’s chairman: BBC Bargain Hunt antiques expert, Ben Cooper.
Jim Panter commented, “We much enjoyed the concert and the pre-concert tapas at Primo was excellent. The Cathedral setting and the intriguing Lux Aeterna, contrasting with Hadyn's stunning Nelson Mass made for a memorable evening. The energy of Worcester Festival Choral Society, both in performance and in constructing such a super concert is to be admired – they deserve much credit for their significant contribution to the cultural fabric of the City and the county.”
The Worcester Live auction in April was held in aid of the organisations that the charity runs, which include the Swan Theatre, Huntingdon Hall, the Historic Ghost Walk of Worcester and the annual Worcester Festival. Other auction lots included a House of Commons tour with Worcester’s MP, Robin Walker, and an iconic still from Pirates of the Caribbean, signed by Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp. In total the auction raised £5,300.
Worcester Festival Choral Society’s concert - the first of three it is holding in its current season – was attended by more than 300 people and featured the Meridian Sinfonia and soloists Sarah Fox (soprano), Susanna Spicer (mezzo-soprano), Ruairi Bowen (tenor) and Andrew De Silva (baritone).
